About Us

Welcome to Subdivision!

Our mission is simple: to make being out of the classroom as stress-free as possible. We started our journey as a music educator and an elementary classroom educator who know how time consuming and difficult is it to leave meaningful substitute plans for a non-music substitute. We also know how intimidating it is for non-music substitutes to walk into a music classroom. Incorporating literacy allows a substitute to teach and reinforce music-related skills, without the music knowledge.

Our music substitute plans, or Guest Conductor Lesson manuals, are designed specifically for non-music substitutes. Each plan includes a clear, step-by-step lesson script that tells the substitute exactly what to say and do, making implementation simple and stress-free.

While the lessons are built around high-quality children’s literature, they include strong, intentional music-skill connections. These plans are truly cross-curricular, aligning what classroom teachers and music teachers are teaching and reinforcing skills across both settings.

Each manual includes a variety of meaningful activities and ready-to-print visuals. Students actively engage with both literacy and music standards, as every lesson is aligned to College and Career Ready Standards. We provide a range of activity types to meet the needs of our diverse learners including scaffolding and enrichment.

For the teacher, preparation is minimal; simply make copies of the activities that work best for your students. With clear goals, materials lists, and detailed student‑friendly activities that keep learners engaged, the manual guides the substitute through the rest, ensuring a smooth, high-quality learning experience for students!
